The upgrade is not yet available. When it is, HTC will announce it and I am certain that someone will post it here.

The main way that Handcent is different is that it does not drain the battery. It also has some features that the native app does not.

Your Hero is not 1.6, it has 1.5.  Handcent is better than the stock text app anyway.

    * Android 2.0 Platform new!
    * Android 1.6 Platform
    * Android 1.5 Platform

http://developer.android.com/sdk/index.html

that is all the proof i have that i have 1.6 and not 1.5 without taking a picture of my phone with another etc

I call B.S.  No Hero In the world has 1.6 unless it's been rooted. If the phone has been then what's the point why not  just go with 2.0?  I've seen a G1 already rooted to 2.0.  We need a pic of your screen on your phone to confirm or you are mistaken.
