I am in love with my HTC Hero from Sprint. I am not sorry that I left Windows Mobile and AT&T for this lovely treasure. Reception is great, and internet speeds are wonderful in the areas I've used the phone. My only concern right now is the battery life. I have my E-mail coming in every 15 minutes, I text, make calls and surf the internet with moderation. My phoen will be at 100% at 8am but by 10am its down to 70%. This is the first time I've had to charge the phone twice a day! I'm wondering if I have a faulty battery, or is anyone else having this issue? Thanks!
Charly

We are all having trouble with it but a fix will be released as soon as HTC releases it. They already know about the problem and are working on it. Patience my new friend we will post as soon as the fix is released.

Wow, thanks for the quick reply, Killa! So I am not alone then. I just remember reading all the reviews for the Sprint Hero and they all praised the battery life. Do you know what happened between then and when we got our hands on the Hero?

The first thing to do is not use the native messaging app, go to android store and download chomp or handcent, disable the notifications etc from the native app etc..
Make sure GPS and wifi are not on as they use a lot of juice. I haven't modified much other then that and get a good charge most of the day, checking emails, using wifi avery now and then but battery life should be good for a days use before you need to charge again.

The reason the notifications need to be shut off is otherwise you will get two notifications of a text, and also there has beeen discussion that the notification activates the stock messenger.
Click on your messenger icon, then click menu settings. unclick auto retrieve and then the notifications.
Thats it. Then when you send a text send it from the handcent icon, and when you recieve on it will prompt you which one you want to make default select handcent.

I haven't even unclicked auto-retrieve and my handcent still works fine and my phone is still sleeping properly. But I did set the default to Handcent.

Interesting Karl. Everything I read you had to disable both. Good to know that you don't have to disable both

When you receive a message and open it in handcent, a window should pop up asking if you want to make default. That is the only way I know how to make it default.
This is exactly how I have mine set up.
On one of the hame pages I have the message widget. The larger one, that lets you scroll through messages with all the people you have messages with. When I receive a message and then click on that widget to open message that is when I get the prompt.
To send yourself a text message you can go to sprints website and send a text form there for testing purposes.

I got mine to default on handcent by going to people anybody with a cell will do and pressing send message then the popup window came up and you have to check the box at the bottom of the window first before you hit the handcent option.

When you first install handcent, it will still not be your default messaging app. I've read about the wake lock and the workaround for it. So after I did a factory reset, I installed the handcent app, went to the messaging app just to turn off the notifications, exited the app, removed the app from my home screen, put the handcent app on my home screen, (the actual app, not the shortcut), went into people picked a name at random with a cell number pushed send message, and a popup window will appear to set the default messaging app will appear. I checked the box at the bottom of the popup window, before I pushed the handcent option. This is what I did to make my phone not read 100% awake.
I also have Advanced task killer on my phone and use it sparingly. I only do not kill the browser and the handcent app. My phone sleeps properly, and I always get a full days use out of it. I probably will not get two but that is fine getting a full days use out of my hero.

I have tried something for two days now with great results.. I turned off the mobile web just to see what happened because I don't need that here at work.. Guess what, my battery is superb.. I also use advance task manager..
