hello, I just got my Hero today but its not activated yet Sad but I still want to get some applications going in it so my question is,

Is there a way to install applications into the phone from the PC?
If so, how please? Smiley

Nope, only if ur phone is rooted then you will be able to put it on sd card.  From experience, however, u would not want to root ur phone

Why wouldn't you root the phone?
Yep the SD card stores the files you've mentioned, as well as, some files for apps. When the phone is upgraded to 2.1, I believe that we will have the ability to store apps on the memory card. You can root your phone if you want but it is something that you should do only if you are comfortable with it.

Yup I agree with f3justusc. At first I thought it was cool to root my phone, until I started having problems. I unrooted it n began to have even more problems. I ended up getting a replacement phone n it came in yesterday. Trust me, just wait for 2.1

Willquil1 , f3justusc. Wow I think you guys are the few that I've seen that wouldn't recommend rooting  your phone, a lot of folks feel its better and faster .

i won't root mine either.  for all we know this 2.1 could be the wave of the future or something.  plus with the mem it will hopefully free up, running an app off the sd card won't be needed.

Yes, you can install apps from the sd card.  Get the application AppManager from the market, and you can use it to install the apps you put on your card.
