Looking to geta couple car charger for my wife and I.  Looking around I find a ton that say they work on the Hero buthave the wrong plug shape.

They all have the same shape as the plug in this ebay auction.  http://cgi.ebay.com/LCD-Screen-Protector-Car-Charger-For-HTC-Hero-Sprint_W0QQitemZ260567951277QQcmdZViewItemQQptZPDA_Accessories?hash=item3cab0f67ad

The one on ours are completely different.  Anybody else run into this problem?

I didn't look at your link but when searching for accessories for the Hero, make sure that you are searching for "Sprint HTC Hero" because there is a European version of the device and you will find those items in your search if you are not specific. If it doesn't say Sprint HTC Hero you probably shouldn't buy it.  You can also search for CDMA HTC Hero accessories, which will also return results for the Sprint phone.

Alright, I just looked at it. It looks perfectly fine to me. The smaller end goes in your phone and the larger end goes in the outlet in your car, boat, or whatever.  If the smaller end (mini usb) doesn't look like it will fit your phone, are you sure that you have the Sprint HTC Hero?

I understand what you mean. Our cell looks to have a unique plug but it is in face just mini-usb. I have no idea why its slightly different, I guess to try and fool you into buying a OEM charger etc.. Anyways, I bought the same exact charger from this person and it works 100% perfect.

That's not a bug! It's a feature request...

The Hero use a proprietary USB plug that have 10 contacts (i believe) instead of the traditional USB contacts. It is still compatible with any Mini USB charger. However, you need to check to output voltage of the charger. It must be 5.0 V. I got a 5.7 V one and it broke my phone...
