as i said in my post here http://www.htc-hero.com/general-htc-hero-discussion/normal-android-gui-on-sprint%27s-htc-hero/, i have been having a couple of issues since i did a hard reset on my phone.

For one, a LOT of settings i had painstakingly gone through to set up again, are now changing?  For example, my default ringtone was a song i made, and picked, and my phone rang the other day with a different ringtone i made.  Another example, i use a star wars soundboard for one of my contacts, and instead of using the ringer i selected, it just started playing a song on my SD card. randomly.

My battery life has also gone to sh!t.  I was getting VERY good battery usage, and it is diminishing Sad

i do NOT want to do a hard reset again.  please help!

Hmmm...that sucks but if it were me, I would try a soft reset and if that doesn't work, you may have to do another hard reset. Also, when I have done either type of reset, I always have to reassign custom ringtones, the phone goes back to the default....I'm not sure about your "random" selection Shocked  Also, since this seems to be connected to your memory card, maybe you should pull it before resetting.

I really have no idea, just some suggestions.

well.... the good news (NOT) is that this is no longer an issue, for the moment.

My phone has experienced water damage.  yay.  Leaving the battery out for 12 hours is my kind of fun.  Oh and I cancelled my sprint insurance when i got the phone to switch to Best Buy's.  Guess what it DOESN'T cover???

Anyone know how much a new Hero costs without being able to renew the contract?

Call Sprint and cry, threaten to cxl, or whatever...they will help you out.

so before i called sprint OR best buy, it turned out a friend of mine worked at sprint. a friend of his was selling his "not used" hero, but for $150, which is more than i WOULD have paid with the insurance, but less than i would pay since i don't have a contract.

Two questions - is there any way to cover the water damage stickers?  I know it's not the high road, but i'm desperate.

secondly, should i go for the $150? or should i try sprint or best buy?  HELP!

i am so sad without my hero. *sniffle*

Just call Sprint. What can it hurt to try. If there is nothing they will do you are no worse off than you are now. Try BB if Sprint won't help. Worst case, you get another phone off of Ebay or you pay the "guy" 150.

Just wanted to update everyone.  Apparently, i was misinformed, and Best Buy DOES cover water damage.  Unfortunately it has to be sent in, but it's still free.  soon i will have my Hero back! (or a new one!)

Did you get your phone back? Was it covered by the BB Geek Squad insurance? I dropped mine in a puddle, and now BB has sent it off. Hoping it'll be covered.

I had the Black Tie Protection, and it did in fact cover it.  They told me it would take 2-4 weeks before I would get a call back, but in fact it was 8 days later.  They junked it out completely.  I went in and they told me i could get a comparable phone, but of course I wanted my Hero back!
