I'm thinking of getting the HTC hero phone. My concern is the phone  has an OS 1.5 cupcake version. If I get this, will it be easy to upgrade to Eclairs v.2? Is this like a software upgrade within the phone? Sorry, i'm a bit clueless how the upgrading works Cheesy

They are supposedly working on the upgrade to 2.0 right now.  I don't think there's anything definite about release though.

If you are wondering whether the upgrade to 2.0 will be OTA or if we will have to go to a website and work a little harder to get the update, I am not sure. I have read that Android was not meant for OTA updates and that is one of the drawbacks to these phones. I am hoping that they are able to pull off OTA updates.

As was previously stated, HTC has acknowledged that we are going from 1.5 to 2.0 and they are working on making the update compatible with HTC Sense. When it will be available and how we will get it to our phones is yet to be revealed.

well if we do get 2.0, not sure how yet, but i believe they are working on it, i would think for sure we would get 1.6, or just keep getting updates to make it the 2.0 basically. but the version will be 1.5, not sure if that's possible, but  hopefully we will know soon, sure someone will post it asap when they know.

HTC Sense is the base system integration of Android and HTC, so it is some kind of UI (User Interface).  The way the Android OS looks on the HTC different than the Moment is the Sense software.

Also the upgrade to Eclair 2.0 from Cupcake 1.5 will be directly, jumping over Donut 1.6.  So we will not see Donut 1.6 on our phones.

As of right now, HTC is working on the integration of the Sence with Eclair 2.0, and they hope to have the update now in December, or really early in the year.
