Hi everyone! It's too hard for me to search for answers. So, I hope that someone can help me here. I have a Blackberry 8330 but it drives me nuts as there are some things it just won't do compared to the Palm Centro I had before. So, this is what I need to know before I actually go out and get myself a Hero:

1) Can I read my gmail, yahoo & hotmail all at once? Is it push mail? Do I have to use outlook?
2) Does it show caller id for incoming calls, i.e. if the contact is already in my address book? If not, does it at least show the state the call is originating from?
3) Does it have its own address/contacts file?
4) Calendar/organizer (is it like the Palm) or does it use Google Calendar
5) Text messages (is it in chat style so that I can see previous threads)
6) Wi-fi so that I can use it as modem for laptop?
7) Is there a video recorder?

Thanks!!  Hope someone can help me.

Yes you can read all those e-mails at once. Don't know about the push You don't have to use outlook.
Yes it has caller ID. It will show you the area code.
Contacts that are synced with Google If you have the address in the contact it will sync it.
It uses Google calender. Update that is coming will bring it up to speed.
Yes it is in chat style. each contact is its own thread.
Don't use wifi for a internet connection but has an option for network sharing.
Yes it does have video recording capability.

Hope this helps. Wink

Wow...... all I would have said was "uhhh....this is a Hero forum." Smiley

*edit - Hahaha.  I didn't see the hero at the end of the last sentence.  Hey it was 3 in the morning, forgive me. Wink

Man -Z-...that's a bit rough.

bmwgal was asking questions about the Hero functionality to see if phone would provide needed functionality.  I would have responded as killa karl did if i actually had a Hero in hand.  I am still doing my research...and waiting for the battery life and a few of the other minor findings to be addressed.

KK,

Thanks for the info!  Cheesy  Sure helps a lot.  One last thing abt the caller id - does it actually give me the name of the state, eg. if the number was originating from Nevada, will it show up on the caller ID as "Nevada"?  My old Palm Centro would do that, and I really miss that feature which the BB does not have.

Thanks!

I stopped using the native messagin app and not using Chomp. I have not had any memory or battery issues since I changed the messaging app. If you do switch, make sure to remember to disable notifications so they aren't doubled.

Seven makes an email app for android which I am using to sync with exchange, includes contacts, calendar etc..

Chomp, btw, also includes a blacklist function into their app as well. A lot of people are searching for a blacklist app and this is built in to their app. All you do is long press the contact for options, one of which is set to blacklist.

I love this cell, have since the first day with zero issues. The GPS is amazing, the apps for it are amazing, the digital compass is amazing etc, this is a very cool cell..trust me

I just got my Hero this week, but I havent been able to figure out how to schedule biweekly events on the calendar. Can it be done or do I need an app for that? And, if so, which app?

Thanks,

I know this might be a pain but if you go into Google Calendar on a computer, you can set the event to repeat every two weeks. Select "Weekly" then a new set of options will appear and you can select "Repeat every 2 weeks". This additional option did not appear when I did this from the phone calendar.
