The phone is really fast now and I was able to uninstall some of Sprints applications that I never used, changed the lock screen and bottom bar.
For those of you that want to try it, go to

I rooted mine in November. When you update, well, it defaults your phone...so why update? Update your root. Never heard of Cyanogen? www.cyanogen.com'nuff said, give me a cookie please.

Oh, 2.1 is light years behind cyanogenmod, by the way. REMEMBER, android IS open source. Me and thousands of others, are developing new roms, apps, and whatever, for this phone. This isn't Samsung Instinct.

I dont regret rooting and flashing my phone. I'm tethering right now with it... wireless! This is so cool! I know this is not so "legal" but what the heck... I'm tethering right now. This is my speed... I'm in Puerto Rico, but for some reason it detected that I was in the states... go figure... maybe something with the IP... can you post a video? how will this affect 2.1,would you have to root all over again.does it really make that much difference?
This does not deserve a video. Everyone is rooting their phone at AndroidForums and there's a lot of videos on YouTube... Here is one: http://www.youtube.com/v/K_mpi84GXnU&rel=1

Yes it void it... but you can revert it and (allegedly) there is no way to tell if you rooted it...

What does "rooting" accomplish? Sounds efficient and anything that will reduce the intrusiveness of certain Sprint applications will be helpful as all I want from Sprint is basic phone functions and text.

The you don't need to root... Rooting is for modifying your phone's look, removing stuff you don't want and adding some new capabilities.
In fact... you don't even need a Hero (or any Android phone) for basic stuff...
That's an error I see a lot in my workplace. They buy 200-300 bucks phones just to make calls and and some text messaging... You can do that with a free phone!
