Can you remove nascar and other apps that come with the phone? If you can then I'm all over this. I have seen lots of videos on you tube but after they root the phone they do not show what they have done or changed. How does it speed it up?

The you don't need to root... Rooting is for modifying your phone's look, removing stuff you don't want and adding some new capabilities.

In fact... you don't even need a Hero (or any Android phone) for basic stuff...

That's an error I see a lot in my workplace. They buy 200-300 bucks phones just to make calls and and some text messaging... You can do that with a free phone!
Good point! Just because the Moon exists, doesn't mean we have to go there. The Human mind is curious, and is a powerful drug.

doesn't mean it wouldn't be fun though.....

Anywho, i've been interested in rooting my phone before, but i'm not as interested as others are in customizing my phone to that extent.  Sure, it would be nice if Sprint let you remove stock apps (like BB does), but i don't want that bad enough to try it...

I'll be the first to admit that i'm scared to death of jacking my phone up. The main plus I see in rooting the phone so we cam remove the stock apps that came with the phone.

Off SD card is really nice to free things up. So are there instructions on how to do all this? Also once you root it can it be reversed?

No one really knows. Some say you'll need to unroot first...

You need to go to htc-hero.com.

TRUE! I rooted mine last week with the same rom. Works great and what i love the most is that im getting more battery life now haha i dont know why but i do. Also, my awake time is only 25% and when i was running the standard way i was getting 100% awake time. Im so glad i rooted it and i have the Better Keyboard on mine, so its fully customized now..I love it!! =)
