I'd really like the newer OS (especially for Google Maps Nav), and I was wondering if I could just install any version of Android.  I could always install the official release once it is out after using the "unofficial" version.

Someone is working on a 2.1 ROM for the Hero now that the kernel code for 2.1 was released. I think there is a "stable" version already but they removed some apps from it... maybe to make it stable..

Does the Sense UI work with the unofficial versions, or will it just be running the stock Android OS?
