Hello all, I am very happy to see that there is this great forum set up for the HTC Hero.  I plan on purchasing this phone come October 11 when it finally becomes available here in the U.S.  I am also happy to have read today that they are soon releasing a firmware update to fix the sluggishness that had been reported in reviews.

I do have one major concern.  I am switichin gover from Windows Mobile.  I am a big Microsoft supporter but I just couldn't deal with Windows Mobile anymore.  I did like however how I could sync my contacts and Live Mail account with my phone effortlessly.  Is there any app available or in the works to support Microsft Live Mail and contact sync?  I do not really use my Gmail account.  And I have read about the forwarding option.. But I'd really just like to be able to put my preferred E-mail account on this lovely phone.  Thanks for reading and glad to become part of this community.

Hey guys.

I can't wait to finally own a phone that does more than call and text! The more I read and hear about this phone, the more excited I get. I am completely unfamiliar with the Android platform, but I am reading and watching all I can about it, and so far I am pretty impressed. I was all set to switch to AT&T and get the Eternity or iPhone when my Sprint contract expired, but I am so glad I waited. This will leave the Eternity in the dust, and it already looks like a viable alternative to the (IMHO) very cliche' iPhone. Now I'll finally have something that will be both super-practical AND super-cool. Can't wait til 10-11-09!

This forum will be an invaluable resource for figuring everything out on the Hero, and from the looks of things....there will be a lot to figure out. Looking forward to it. Oh yeah.

Hello,

My name is CBO and I currently own the HTC G1. I was wondering if you could tell me if the Hero is a heat sensitive touch screen or can you access it by just using your finger nails? The G1 is a heat sensitive phone and you absolutely can not access any application by pressing it with your finger nails. This, is a huge problem for me because I have long finger nails and fat fingers. PLEASE respond ASAP as this will make a HUGE difference for me if I decide to purchase the HERO  Undecided

well, if you press really hard you may actually register a tap.
but I wouldn't want to use that as my primary method of input.
it has a capacitive touchscreen display, so you have to press with something that conducts electricity, which means that bare skin is better than a fingernail.
you could go to a reseller and ask if they have a test model so you can check it out for yourself. that's what I did.

nope, I don't know. sorry. this is my first Android phone.
I would suggest though, that you compare the specs and decide for yourself.
you know, Google is your friend and all that...

CBO, the Hero is like the G1, in that you need to use your finger, not your fingernail, to register input on the phone.  If you have long nails, you could use your knuckle.  It will take some adjustment, but it could work almost as well as using your fingertip.
