I have a Hero also. I just got her one for Christmas and thought maybe about taking it back, waiting for the Google phone. Give her my Hero and get the new one for me. But, as someone stated above, it's going to basically be the exact same thing anyway. And, as long as Sprint/HTC/Google continue to offer OS upgrades, I can't believe that the new phone is going to be all that much better. I guess we'll see.

One thing I haven't seen on any of the forums are a united front to push HTC/Sprint to get 2.0 or 2.1 on our month old phones. We really need to unite and start an old fashion letter writing campaign to make sure the powers that be hear us loud and clear.

If you go to the Sprint Store or Best Buy, you will note that all Android phones have basically the same functionality it's what the manufacturers add that makes the difference. HTC gave us Sense, which allows for 7 screens instead of two or three that other Android phones have. Everyone with an Android phone has access to the same apps based on the version of android the phone is running. So getting a Google phone or getting an HTC phone will end with the same results. If the Google phone is real (still being questioned) what will the cost of an unsubsidized phone be and why would Google really want to put a phone out there. Google doesn't sell anything at this moment other than ads. Are they going to start a retail devision?

As far as pushing HTC or Sprint there is really no point in that. HTC was straight forward when announcing that the Hero will get 2.whatever but said they have to modify Sense to work seamlessly with the Android OS.  Last week, Sprint announced that the CDMA Hero would be getting the upgrade in early 2010. I have no desire to push/urge HTC to do anything because if they rush it will be flawed. When you take a "wrapper" (HTC Sense) and put it on top of an operating system there are many things that can go wrong when modifications are needed. I want 2.0 as badly as everyone else but more importantly, I want HTC and Sprint to get it right so that the previous issues with this phone do not reappear and so that new issues are minimized. Yes, there will be new issues when they release the 2.whatever upgrade.  I say thank you HTC and Sprint for providing us with information so we don't have to guess.

Folks, there has been no actual confirned release date for when we will be getting an update to android on our phones. Until that happens, please refrain from posting messages like this.... all it does is add to the confusion above. Thanks for your understanding.

My Tweet from Sprint stated "the first part of 2010" and nothing more.

Please, by all means.

IF such a release exists, HTC and Sprint  surely aren't letting on, as shown by the posts on their Twitter accounts, and posts over @ BAW.com.

IF such a release exists, that states the HTC Hero will be getting Android 2.1 on 1/13/10, then please post it.

Until then, please stop trying to pass fiction/rumors as facts. We could do without the confusion that would create around here. Thanks fot your understanding.

That makes no sense because Sprint went to the trouble to re-Tweet which vesion of Android we are getting but they held firm to 1H2010. Of course, Sprint has been known to say one thing and do another. Bottomline, I am not placing any faith in 1/13. If we get it on that date great.
