One of us took the HTC Hero and the other procured the Moment

The hospital network admin is a Sprint customer so we decided we'd get the Hero and the Samsung Moment because it was such a tough choice. Plus, being Sprint Premier customers we can change to something with better features in a year. Got to start some place.
I got the Moment because I liked having the keyboard and he didn't care. Even though the Moment has a 800Mhz processor to Hero's 528 MHz a little fooling with both at a Best Buy and a Sprint Store didn't reveal enough information - or it may have been our lack of knowledge with the devices - to see the difference. Lee likes the seven screens and we'll both strip off the same apps we do not use such as Twitter, Facebook, and some of the Google stuff if we caan so we can have more room for apps we might actually use like Dataviz or DocstoGo, some things here and there and get rid of the unnecessary tie-ins to useless eMail providers.
Both machines are slick and haven't put mine down. Lee can do his techie thing and we'll see if it is close to being a wash. Except for the AMOLED screen and the QWERTY keyboard of the Samsung - trade-off the customization screens of the Hero - and they have to be darn close.
Am sure in six months there will be what we all want - a 4 - 4.5 inch display, excellent music capabilites with equalizers and setting so we can give our Zune and iPod away or use them for sweat-related exercise activiites, more internal storage for applications -CURRENTLY THE BIGGEST SHORTCOMING OF THE DROIDS - and a more stablized browsing experience along with better working apps.
If I had to pick a phone solely on the merits of music and how I use it I would have chosen a Blackberry Tour or Curve because their apps are stable and targeted to work functions.
Am now looking for a PowerPoint Presentation solution and a music equalizer solution for the DROID platform.
Great site here for information.

How do you "strip off apps you dont want or use?" I don't use Twitter, Flickr, or most of the default Sprint crap, & would really like to get rid of it. Esp. that annoying Peep app. that I can't kill.

Can't do that without rooting the phone. Search the forum, someone posted a video or a link on how to do it.

Some of the applications are rooted to the phone but not all. Examples of rooted apps include Sprint TV, Bejeweled. For many of the others:
From menu, go to settings, then applications, then manage applications, tap app you want to remove, next screen will pop up with option to uninstall.
By the way we both like the Moment better than the HTC Hero .

This only works for downloaded, updated (updated Sprint Cup Mobile & can now uninstall), or purchased apps. Stuff like IM, Peep, Footprints, Stocks, etc. all seem to be rooted to the phone.

What do you guys like better about it?
I got the Hero over the Moment, because I'm not a big texter, not a big fan of sliders, & most of all because of the better reviews on Sprint.com. Now actually having seen the 2 side by side, I see it (Moment) has a bigger screen & faster processor.
I also had a chance to play with a Droid Eris a few times before I ordered the Hero, & they (Hero & Eris) seemed very similar. The reviews I read on Hero weren't kidding about the poor, read CRAPPY battery life. Still debating on whether or not to keep it.
Although, I've already invested in a Body Glove case, & a Zagg Invisible Shield for the screen...

carhauler 1969,
Both phones are cool. Maps and things like that seem to work a bit faster with the Moment. The keyboard is a personal thing - it was not the deciding factor because the onscreen works just fine and I found a link where you could download the Hero onscreen key-layout to the Moment since some prefer that.
You answered some of the points already - brighter screen, processor. However, in another year we'll all have something better than the Google Nexus.
What surprised me is that both phones perform better than some of the complaints making me think much of the problems may be operator error.
I like mine. They're fun and I've used everything but the music feature.

Thanks for the input. How's the battery life on your Hero?
How does the Moment compare here?

I feel the Moment is slightly better on battery consumption. All of these devices love the juice unless you put them in airplane mode or just use them as a phone until you're ready to do something that draws power - live navigation, video, TV...whatever.
I'm not sure a new release 2.0 or 2.5 will fix that. A more powerful battery option or buying a backup and keeping it charged.
I'm thinking most of us are charging them almost daily unless we're using it as a glamorous phone - but then what would be the point as part of the attraction is that it is a cool toy.
I wish the volume was higher. Maximum volume on these things is less than the previous phones I've owned. That's my biggest complaint.

My husband decided on the moment, whereas I opted for the hero. We both LOVE our phones. On the moment, my husband had to download a better clock, stopwatch, and weather app. With those apps, his phone looks more like mine even though I did not have to download said apps.
The Hero is having issues with video/picture messages not downloading, so that is my biggest pet peeve. Other than that, both phones react the same and we have not noticed a difference.
I do prefer the trackball and buttons on the hero to the moment. With that being stated, my husband loves his moment.
