i do not know for certain ... however ... http://www.junefabrics.com/android/ ... pdanet is a wonderful alternative. i have used pda net for upwards of 3 years on all the phones i have bought and its availability is a deciding factor in whether or not i purchase a phone. WinMobile, Palm, BBerry, and Android. No WebOS (so no Palm Pre for me).

I haven't be able to get it to work, but in the manual (pg98) there is a mention of Network Sharing. Mobile Network Sharing Your device's data capabilities as a modem for your laptop computer. You can send and receive email and browse the Internet anywhere on the Nationwide Sprint Network.
Important:You need to install HTC Sync(pg45) before you can use mobile network sharing.
1. Make sure your device's data connection is turned on. See Getting Started with Data Services to learn how to turn on the device's data connection. 2. Connect the device to the computer using the provided USB cable. 3. Press the home key>menu>and tap Settings>Wireless controls. 4. Select the Mobile network sharing check box.
Note:When using mobile network sharing, the USB mass storage feature is disabled. Also, you will not be able to use HTC Sync. Let me know if you get it to work.

I also was looking for a tether fix, but ended up purchasing PDAnet which works great way faster than when I was "internet sharing" on my Mogul

Did Sprint disable the tethering on the Hero?

No this works exactly as described above.
Install the HTC Sync software, this includes the necessary drivers. Run the software, if it doesn't connect run the HTC Sync from the cell Once connected, go into settings and enable the Network Sharing option..
Works like a charm!

Whatever you get with your cell..if you are getting 3g speeds anywhere from 600k to 1+mb)
Fast enough for just about anything.

Did I not read somewhere that you could incur a charge for this?

There was talk back during the original instinct days that Sprint would notice "heavy" data use (5gb or more) and had determined an "acceptable use" amount of data on media / smartphones. The way I understand it with the Hero is that the phone is "heavy" Data use no matter what (i.e. apps running in the background, searches, webpage graphics and etc). I understand sprint is paying for bandwidth but what if I were to use the Hero "heavy" without tethering it? Would I have to pay more? I would think not. Unless it specificlly states in our "Simply Everything" plan that we can use only a certain amount of data then they cannot cap us. I would also beg to point out that if they are telling us how to "tether" then they are on the hook if we do. Just my .02 though. Who knows what they may try.

I am curious to know if anyone has figured out how to use your Hero as PAM/Tether with a Mac Powerbook G4, like the Instinct? I love this phone but really need that feature.

I gave up on the Mobile Sync included with the phone and decided to use PDA Net. I tried to setup Mobile Sync but it just wouldn't work. PDA Net works with no effort so I'll just pay the 30 bucks.

I don't think pda net works for Mac though... does it?
