I gave up on the Mobile Sync included with the phone and decided to use PDA Net. I tried to setup Mobile Sync but it just wouldn't work. PDA Net works with no effort so I'll just pay the 30 bucks.
I don't think pda net works for Mac though... does it? Sorry but I don't know. Just google pda net and you will find their website.

1. Make sure your device's data connection is turned on. See Getting Started with Data Services to learn how to turn on the device's data connection. 2. Connect the device to the computer using the provided USB cable. 3. Press the home key>menu>and tap Settings>Wireless controls. 4. Select the Mobile network sharing check box.
I tryed this & I can see everything on my network but have no internet. If any one know what I might be doing wrong let me know Thanks

Installed PDAnet on my laptop. I unfortunately get the blue screen when installed the USB driver mentioned on their site that has no fix. It appears to install completely otherwise though going through the rest of the steps. So, assume for a second that it did install correctly. Laptop is on, phone connected via USB, HTC Sync is green in the tray. I left click on the PDAnet icon and select "Connect." The HTC Sync turns off and nothing at all happens. What next? I tried to uninstall and reinstall several times. Tried it in Safe Mode also. Same results.

This might help - in my experience, you cannot have the HTC Sync drivers and the PDA Net drivers installed on your computer at the same time. Every time that I had both, nothing worked correctly. Deleting the programs did nothing to fix the messed up driver situation. So, I finally did a system restore back to a day before I even bought the Hero. Then, I installed PDA Net and only PDA Net.

THANK YOU. That did it. It didn't really click that the USB issue was a conflict with the previously installed software. I am using PDA Net right now. On the other hand, I guess that means I can't use the HTC Sync stuff at all...which I wasn't sure I would use anyway.

Yeah, as long as you use Gmail, your contacts are automatically synced so I don't see the need for the HTC Sync. Glad I could help you out. I spent a few days trying to get both to work. I used different usb ports for each connection but it always ended with PDA Net not working. I finally decided 30 bucks was a small price to pay to know that PAM would work flawlessly. I haven't had any problems connecting with PDA Net.

PDANet works great. Just installed it and it's actually faster than my typical cable modem connection.

http://www.junefabrics.com/android/index.phpYou can use the free version for a month I think, but it wouldn't let me go to some websites. I purchased the full version and love it's simplicity and ease. I did have problems installing it on my computer because I had HTC Sync installed. I don't use Sync anyways, so I deleted it and it's worked flawlessly ever since.

You would go to this link or go to the Android Marketplace or androlib.com: http://www.junefabrics.com/android/index.phpYou will need to follow the instructions to determine which setup you want to use. USB or bluetooth.

Want to know if any body know if you will be able to use the sprint hero as a modem on your computer like you can with the instinct
You can go to the Android App MArket and search for a program called PdaNet it will allow you to connect to the Internet with Pretty decent speeds.
