Heya guys - I'm looking into picking up the Hero to replace my Upstage but if I'm gonna go to a touch-screen phone, I want it to "bump" back when I hit buttons.  Does anyone know of a way to make the phone give tactile or "haptic" feedback when pressing buttons?  I see it will do this when you are using the keyboards to type messages, but I'd like to have it provide "feedback" whenever I'm using the phone, in menus, main screen, icons, etc...  I'm hoping that I can find some info on this as I'd LOVE to have this phone, it's very cool and would fit the bill well, but it would have to provide me that "bump" to make me feel confident using it.  Anyone tried any third party programs to activate this feature??  I've been reading about iFeelPixel's Vibetonz, don't know if this would allow me to setup the features I want on this phone?? anyone willing to check it out a bit?? am I the only one looking for this feature??  Let me know, thanks!!!

i don't know about anything else, but on the home screens, feedback is given when you press-hold an item to move or remove it, so i doubt you can get any kind of other feedback from the homescreen.

Yep, I checked it out and I've got nothing to say because I don't use or need the feature. Hopefully someone who shares your needs will come along. There are also other forums for the Hero that you could consult.

I'd been checking like crazy about the updates and what they include for the fone - I wonder if the 2.0 update will carry with it some tactile features??  Anyone that's reading this do the 1.56(?) update, does it give you feedback anywhere other than the virt. keyboards??  Thanks for any info!

You should seriously consider a phone with buttons.

Nope.  Just on the keyboard and apps that call for it.

You can set the Sprint HTC Hero to sound an audible "click" when making screen selections. I know.  I've had one for a week, and like it a lot so far.

BTW, the Moment has a great keyboard but loses a lot of the functionality of the Hero (i.e., the Moment is by Samsung, not HTC).

What functionality does it lose?

I believe he is talking about sence UI. but most of the sence capabilities can be added with a couple of trips to the Market....even the keyboard(but u knew that Z)

thanks for all the feedback people.. I've been reading up on some of the apps that can be installed alongside the phone, and some of the hacks you can install and maybe get some extra mods for...  I'd love to get this phone, I played with one for a bit, it was great, hoping that I can get the response I'm kinda hoping for.  The phone seems perfect for me, I wonder if the 2.0 update may have this feature...

You can download a program from the Android Market called Spare Parts and enable haptic feedback.

Sense UI is the User Inteface that the Hero has on it. Without it all you have is the stock Android build.
