So it looks like engadget has reported that HTC Hero will get it's 2.1 update from Sprint on May 7th. (This Friday)

I saw a website that said it was postponed again. See below. This sucks!

Sprint HTC Hero Android 2.1 Update, Release Date Delayed AGAIN
May 6, 2010, By Alex Ion in Cellphones
www.devicemag.com

Sprint is playing with their HTC Hero customers and if you’re one of them we understand your frustration. Expected to kick in tomorrow (according to a Best Buy leak) the release date for the Android 2.1 update for the HTC Hero has been postponed, once again and again and again …

That’s according to a Sprint admin who commented on the matter on the official forums. Apparently the thread that detailed the Best Buy leak has been closed down with the following message: “Closing this thread because I don’t want folks to think that 2.1 is coming out on the 7th.” There you have it folks, Sprint is not going to roll out the upgrade this Friday.

We’re not sure if it’s that hard to bring the Android 2.1 upgrade to the Hero or why on Earth it’s taking them so long, but we know that Sprint is doing a great job in disappointing some of their customers. We’re really anxious to the see the HTC EVO 4G in action, but if it’s going to experience the same issues as the Hero does today, they’re in big trouble.

How about it Sprint? When will Android 2.1 come to the Hero? People REALLY want it …

#@$? you Sprint!!!!!  Angry  I'm really sick of this update continuously getting pushed back!  I bought an HTC Hero in Feb which I loved..at one point, starting having problems with pic messages, forced closings, phone locking up, etc, in March, have been involved with Sprint "tech support" for MONTHS, have done soft and hard resets MULTIPLE times, finally got ANOTHER HTC Hero last week, ran great for a whole 3 days, then the issues returned, basically my smartphone is stupid.  All it does is make calls, and then I have issues actually getting my phone to make calls when the screen locks up and i have to reset again.  It was a real waste of money when I could of just got some cheap ass phone that would've performed better than my Hero is doing now.  C'mon with the b.s.'ing of people and send out the damn update already!   Angry

Yep, it's getting annoying.  At this point, it would be awesome if they would just give me a $50-100 credit on my account towards a new phone. Then, they can just forget about updating the Hero. Clearly, this is not working out the way they had planned and I feel their pain. Surely, they would like to send this update and move on to other things. I can't image they are just doing this to piss off their customers -not likely.

However, this is yet another delay that pushed me towards the Nexus One and not the Evo.

Hi guys, from what I understand sprint is not to blame for the update delay.

I got my update today BECAUSE I rooted my phone and installed the 2.1 rom. It's easy and now I could care less if they ever do the update.

I too have Rooted my Sprint Hero.  The rom that I have now is virtually flawless in functionality.  When and if they finally release an update for the CDMA Hero, it will only take a few hours to get a rooted rom for it and I will install that.  For now though, I will run a leaked Rom with almost no problems, awesome battery life, and cool effects like live wallpaper.

Any update on when Android 2.1 will actually be available. Lots of my friends have it on their phones and I am getting jealous. Smiley
